Similar to "Disney Dreams" on the Disney Wonder this show brings it up more than a notch in terms of staging, and production. There are six high definition projectors and more than 200 scenic elements to create "Disney's Believe". Three hundred costumes and 200 wigs are used in this show alone and each one is unbelievably detailed and beautiful.
Follow the story of Dr. Cornelius Greenway, a botanist obsessed with making his garden grow. Dr. Greenway is so pre-occupied with a particular plant that he misses his daughter Sophia's birthday. Sophia wishes for her Dad to believe in Magic and Genie appears to grant her wish.
This stage production features more than 20 of your favorite Disney characters and will have you singing and dancing to every number. This is by far my favorite stage production on Disney Cruise Line and I could sit and watch it over and over again.
Each scene is filled with the characters in music you know and love:
- Genie-who performs the trademark "Never Had A Friend Like Me"
- Genie is joined by the first wizard, Merline who sings "Higitus Figitus"
- Mary Poppins and Bert "Step-In-Time"
- Baloo teaches Dr. Cornelius about the "Bare Necessities"
- Grandmother Willow appears and gives Dr. Cornelius an important lesson about following his heart and Pocahontas sings "Colors of the Wind"
- Rafiki leads the savanna in singing "Circle of Life"
- Peter Pan tries to teach the Dr. "You Can Fly, You Can Fly, You Can Fly"
- Prince Naveen and Princess Tiana join a New Orleans crowd in singing "Gonna Take You There" and "Dig a Little Deeper" with a screen appearance by Mama Odie
- The Fairy Godmother uses her magical wand for a little "Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo"
- Princess Aurora and Prince Phillip, Aladdin and Jasmine and Cinderella and Prince Charming appear to sing and dance to "Once Upon A Dream" "A Whole New World" and "So This is Love"
- My favorite scene is when Sophia (the daughter) is shown all grown up dancing with a prince of her own while Dr. Cornelius sings "Baby Mine". This song from Dumbo and the scene played out on stage has me in tears every single time I see the show!
- Dr. Cornelius pulls it together in the end and throws a birthday party that Sophia will never forget and you're all invited to "Be Our Guest".
You would think will all the different Disney characters represented the show would be choppy but it's drawn together so beautifully as Dr. Cornelius learns "What Makes A Garden Grow". The show is beautifully written and expertly performed and flows seamlessly. The worst part of the show is when it ends; because I could sit there all day and watch them sing and dance!
The new technology on the ship allows the stage productions to reach a height they never have before. The staging is more detailed and reaches a depth with various screens and digital effects. Grandmother Willow really talks from the tree and there's a texture in the depth of the staging that makes it feel very realistic. If you're used to seeing various props being moved on and off stage you won't see that in this production. The scenes seamlessly flow from one to the next, never missing a beat and never showing you anything that breaks the imaginary world that "Believe" places you in.
I can't wait to see this show on the Fantasy! I hope it will be performed during my 3-night preview cruise at the end of March!
