Cruises have no shortage of food, that's something even newbies know about cruising! There is a notorious reputation for an over abundance of food and it's delightful! There are buffets and dining rooms, snack spots and let's not forget about the 24/7 room service.
After having cruised several times I have come to accept the fact that the room service food is all about the delight of having someone at your service 24/7. No one actually NEEDS chicken tenders at 3am but ordering them and having them delivered to your room at 3am for FREE does hold a certain appeal!
The room service menu is essentially the same on each of the ships and I can tell you from personal experience, don't plan on having a pleasantly memorable meal from room service. Set your expectations that this is merely survival food until the next buffet is rolled out.
The best things on the menu are the "All Hands on Deck" which is an International cheese platter with crackers and grapes and the chicken tenders. You really can't go wrong with the Disney chicken tenders. They are always crispy and delicious and actually look like white meat chicken on the inside. We did ask for a side of ranch dressing with ours, but it didn't come. If you like ranch with your tenders make a stop at one of the quick service food stations during business hours and ask them for a side of dressing. You can keep it in the mini fridge in your stateroom.
The remaining menu items are nothing impressive or tasty and will most likely end up not eaten in front of your stateroom door. It's important to remember that the hard working folks in room service are working around the clock to make sure every single stateroom has what they want. Don't expect pizza delivery times...your food won't arrive in 10 minutes or less, it probably won't even arrive in 30 minutes or less. Allow at least an hour for your food to be delivered, especially during the busy times...when the kids clubs are closing, it's been a while since dinner, etc.
Practical Planner Tip: Each night you'll be given a door hanger with the room service breakfast menu. A variety of juices, muffins, bagels, fruit and cereals are available, as well as coffee! Yum! If your family likes a light breakfast snack you can always keep milk in the mini fridge and some boxed cereal on hand for an anytime snack!
Girlfriend, you haven't tried the BLT from room service. Better than we have had in any restaurant. And the B-B-Q wings are delish.
