New Procedures for Disneyland Park
While Walt Disney World is busy getting RFID technology up and running, Disneyland is implementing a new system (with old technology) to prevent the use of fraudulent tickets. Over the holidays the Disneyland parks began requiring photo i.d. to all guests with multi-day tickets. This was done in an effort to prevent the selling of used tickets, which would then be purchased and re-used.
This scam is nothing new, this scam, along with many others, was the reason that Disney World began using the fingerprint scanners several years ago.
Disneyland isn't ready for fingerprint technology yet, so they are stationing cast members at the entrances with cameras and every multi-day ticket holder will be required to have their photo taken. The photos will then be linked electronically to their ticket and will show their photo on a screen when re-enterting a park.
It's not unheard of for Disney to require a photo, Disney Cruise Line requires a photo for every passenger that is linked to your Key to the World card and identifies you every-time you swipe your card.
The privacy situation wasn't as big of an issue for most park goers as the wait times. The inefficient system is still being tested and tweaked and wait times to enter the park were 45 minutes or longer.
Hopefully the Disneyland Cast Members will find an effective system that works soon, and guests won't be inconvenienced when entering the park.
