It's not even snowing yet here in the Detroit area but I'm already pre-emtively ready for spring. Mostly because a herd of travelers will be flocking to Walt Disney World and Disney Cruise Line for spring break vacations and that means lots of work for me; which I love. I'm also looking forward to spring for the 2013 Epcot Flower and Garden Festival.
Last year I was able to experience Flower and Garden Festival for the first time and it was one of my most enjoyable trips. This was during a "work trip" so I was able to tour the park on my own with no husband or child. It was my first solo Walt Disney World experience and I must say I really enjoyed it.
The Flower and Garden festival is a must-do for any Disney fan and certainly for any gardening fan. I'm not going to pretend I have a green thumb, in fact I have (on numerous occasions) killed a cactus and the only thing I can grow are weeds. The immaculate topiaries do inspire me though and are quite a sight to behold.
This year the Flower and Garden Festival will offer an interactive play area inspired by the new Disney film, "Oz the Great and Powerful". Tents will offer carnival style midway games and photo opportunities and the Oz Movie Garden is full of plants inspired by the film.
Flower and Garden Festival runs March 6, 2013 to May 19, 2013 and while the topiaries are my favorite part the festival does offer quite a bit more. HGTV sponsors workshops and presentations about gardening. There are themed displays where you can learn new tips and tricks to try at home and the Flower Power Concert Series features live performances from stars of the 1960's and 1970's. If "going green" is your thing be sure to keep an eye out for environmentally friendly up-cycled garden items such as bird feeders from old laundry detergent bottles-brilliant!
