Animator's Palate: Disney Fantasy

Our dining rotation on the Disney Fantasy certainly left the best for last (Palo excluded of course as I view that it a category all its own!)! The food I will discuss later, but i'm certain that the new technology is what everyone is really interested in so i'm going to get right to it!

Dinner at the new and even more upgraded Animator's Palate was quite an experience! The decor is very much the same as on the Disney Dream; which is quite different than on the Magic and the Wonder. I love the detailing of the animation and the way they play old cartoons, etc instead of just watching pictures slowly change. This dining room is far more interactive and updated, which is to be expected. The upgrade of the new "Turtle Talk with Crush" type of technology is still available on this ship; because the Disney Fantasy will be sailing 7-night itineraries it will offer two different experiences for Animator's Palate: the "Turtle Talk with Crush" experience as well as the "Animation Magic" experience.

I am a great many things, unfortunately an artist isn't one of them! I was a tad bit horrified when I arrived and saw this place mat and the black marker. While I can (and do) color with the best of them, drawing is not my forte.

Our server Aswald explained that we could draw whatever we wanted on our "character" but we had to stay inside the blue lines because anything on or outside of the lines would be cut off from the magic that was going to happen later. I drew a stick figure and gave her as much flair as I could muster and hoped for the best!

During dinner Mickey appeared several times to let us know he was still working on a magical surprise and a montage of Disney videos was played on the screens throughout the restaurant. It was really enjoyable to see some clips from movies you haven't seen in a while and clips from all your favorites.

At the end of the meal it was time for Mickey to reveal his big surprise. I was worried this was going to turn into my nightmare but it was SO fun seeing our creations come to life!!! Our illustrations walked, danced and even took on color and joined some of our favorite Disney friends in movie clips. This was a truly astounding experience! My drawing (as seen above) turned into the walking gal seen below (far left).

I didn't want to over expose you to my terrible drawing (for some reason I didn't outline the head so she looks like she has an invisible skull). Here are a few images of what the colored illustrations from fellow diners looked like in scenes from a few of our favorite Disney films!

It was amazing to see a montage featuring all the diners illustrations and even more amazing to see how talented some of the dining guests were! I think they're really looking for more employees in the Animation department and this is a job interview-needless to say they wouldn't be contacting me!

At the end you get to see your name on the list of "Animators" for the night! Mine is on the far left on the bottom-the signature comes up in your own handwriting and you receive your drawing back with a seal of approval that you're an Animator!

Stay tuned for information and photos on the food at Animator's Palate and be sure not to miss this restaurant on your dining rotation!
