Sailing Away Party-Disney Cruise Line

Alright, I am a woman of my word and I promised we'd talk about the sailing away party. After the safety drill, head up to the decks by the Mickey and Donald Pools (which is turned into a stage) and attended by all your favorite characters and entertainment cast members.

The party is well attended (see photo below) and many people rush to get in front of the stage. You can really see the party from everywhere but some people prefer to get up close and personal. If you're a more stay back and oversee kind of person, then head to the second deck, along the railings and you can look over and see the party happening and it's also broadcast on the screen.

So what exactly is the party? It's exactly what it says it is...a Sailing Away party. Rest assured the ships nearby will all be looking longingly at your ship, wishing they were onboard; because of course Disney has the most fun!

There is singing and dancing and the characters appear in their cruise attire. My personal favorite moment was watching Daisy and Donald dance to "come on, let me see ya shake your tail feather...", for some reason I just found it funny.

The sail away party is a great way to kick off the cruise, it really gives you that "vacation has started" feeling and gets everyone singing and dancing. There are plenty of drinks of the day being offered (yes, they do charge for them!) The party is also a great way to get a feel for who your entertainment staff is going to be during your cruise. When you feel the energy from the cast members you might be more likely to go into one of the adult clubs later at night while your kids are playing and see what they have to offer instead of sitting in your stateroom. Not to mention there's just something about singing and dancing that makes the long nights and waiting at the port and all the planning worthwhile. You really feel like you've arrived in paradise as you watch your troubles sail away!

I think everyone should see the sail away party at least once. If you have kids you'll most likely be dragged to every sail away party, go an enjoy yourselves...it might be the last time you see your kids because when the kids clubs open that night, they won't want anything to do with you!

The Practical Planner Tip: Cast members hand out streamers attached to straws to wave around during the party...if your hands have any moisture on them be careful...the colors run! We had yellow all over our hands so be careful!
