Tracy Arm
We slowly started toward Tracy Arm and Captain Fabian announced we would be reaching the passage around 1pm. Beach Blanket Buffet was having a BBQ out on deck starting at noon so we bundled up and got a table by the railing. The view was great and the wind wasn’t too bad since we were sitting near a glass wall. It did start to sprinkle so after our lunch we relocated and decided to walk around the lower decks for a different view.
Practical Planner Tip-*sit on the side where Goofy’s Galley is, it’s a better view of snow covered mountains, etc than the other side has to offer
Deck 4 was a great place to be, it’s the deck with the jogging trail so it goes all the way around the deck and you can walk and get a wonderful 360 degree view. We located a few sun chairs and bundled up with our blankets and watched the glaciers go by. It was a few hours before we really hit the good stuff but the view from the deck was breathtaking.
We had an impromptu visit from a few friends, Chip and Dale, Donald and Minnie (Dressed in their Alaskan attire) which was a nice surprise and a great backdrop for a character photo!
Staff members from Shutters photography were also on deck to take character photos and family portraits with the Alaskan backdrop.
Deck 4 offered a great view and also coverage overhead for those rainy moments. The wind was our biggest rival but enough layers, strategically placed scarves and a break under the blankets served us just fine.
Cast Members strolled by with drink carts offering specialty coffees and hot chocolate with optional liquor and the Alaska commemorative drink tumbler.
The cold didn’t seem to keep anyone away, a variety of layered up folks stood on the decks to see the beauty of Alaska as we sailed through. Intermittent dialogue was played, based on state regulations for noise, etc. giving information on where we located as well as historical information.
Our best view was actually from our deck 7 veranda. The whitewalls helped reduce the wind, we had our own chairs and could turn the TV to 25-1 to hear the narration when it was on. Around 4pm we really got into the channel where the glaciers were breaking all around us and it seemed we were floating on an ice cube. The blue icebergs rising out of the water were a beautiful sight to behold and made for gorgeous photos that would serve as reminders of Alaska for the future.
Forget the Bahamas! I want to cruise Disney Alaska!
