I won't torture you and drag out the remaining posts on this topic, so saddle up your reading eyes and get ready to delve into the rest of the details of how to make the most of your Walt Disney World Vacation!
We already talked about setting realistic expectations and prioritizing your "must do's" so let's move on with the list:
- Know Your Parks-If I had $1.00 for every time someone asked me which park has Harry Potter I'd be retired. There are four parks and 2 water parks plus a Downtown Disney area. Major attractions are included at each park and water park, know where your "must do" attractions are located so you can make your touring plans accordingly. Here are a few of the highlights:
- Magic Kingdom: Space Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Splash Mountain, Pirates of the Caribbean, Dumbo, Tea Cups, Peter Pan, It's a Small World, Haunted Mansion are some of the Magic Kingdom favorites. Magic Kingdom is also home to "the Magic, Memories and You" pre-fireworks show and the nightly "Wishes" fireworks spectacular.
- Epcot: Home to Test Track, Soarin', Living with the Land, the World Showcase Pavilions, The Seas with Nemo and Friends, Turtle Talk with Crush and more!
- Animal Kingdom: The Kilamanjaro Safari, Kali River Rapids, Expedition Everest, Finding Nemo: The Musical and the Festival of the Lion King Show.
- Hollywood Studios: The American Idol Experience, Star Tours, Muppets 3-D, Tower of Terror, Rockin' Roller Coaster featuring Aerosmith and Fantasmic (a night time laser, light and fireworks show featuring Disney characters and villains)
- Optimizing your touring plans coincides with knowing the general layout of the parks. This allows you to have an idea of where you want to start and end. Keeping in mind certain parks are best worked in clockwise or counter-clockwise direction and some are best prioritized by major attractions. Park touring plans are NOT one size fits all. Every family is unique and each family has it's own idea of ideal touring schedules and plans. While it's nice to take into account different opinions, realize that you don't have to singly adopt one person's touring plans to your own. Working in your character experiences with your "must do's" will make your family's touring plan uniquely yours.
- Advanced Dining Reservations: If you are a Disney resort guest (and why wouldn't you be?!) you can make your ADR's (Advanced Dining Reservations) 180 days prior to your reservation date. Is this necessary? My official answer is yes. If you are on the dining plan you want to make the most of it. Signature dining experiences and character dining experiences are popular, so if you want a spot at one of the coveted tables you need to plan ahead. It might seem ridiculous to pick your dining locations that far in advance of your check in date...trust me, it's not. Not sure where to eat? There are plenty of reviews about food, including my favorite the Disney Food Report.I am a self proclaimed foodie and have eaten at many of the restaurants on the Disney Dining Plan and love to get to know what kind of food your family likes so I can make suggestions (if you want them).
- Use an Authorized Disney Vacation Planner: Everything that's listed above I do, and then some. I customize touring plans, make custom autograph books, help you as much or as little as you want from beginning to end.
