Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party 2011: 7 Dwarfs Meet n' Greet

There just isn't enough hours in the hard ticketed events to accomplish everything that these seasonal specialty parties have to offer.

Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party is a great place (and aside from the Halloween party, the ONLY time and place) to meet the Seven Dwarfs. They have long been "retired" and making appearances at special events. Finding one or two would be amazing, but getting all 7 together for a photo is priceless.

Since my whole family was together, we decided that if ever there was a time to wait in line for a photo...this was it. At the start of the party we all high-tailed it over to the Splash Mountain exit where the Seven Dwarfs were already gathering a crowd. The wait was about an hour and we were told by cast members that the beginning of the party was the best time to get in line to meet and greet because the line only got longer as the night goes on. Conversely, another cast member was telling people that the later the night goes, the lighter the line gets. We didn't want to risk it, or have our photo come out with us looking exhausted or bloated from all the hot chocolate and cookies; so we opted to wait it out.

I don't regret the wait, it was a really special experience and the dwarfs were very "in character". Sleepy had to be woken up on several occasions, Bashful was using his Christmas striped scarf to hide behind and Grumpy was seen folding his arms and tapping his toes more than once.

Surprisingly, the line held more adults than kids, although you wouldn't have guessed it from the way the adults were acting. There was so much excitement and giggling and endless contests of who could name the Seven Dwarfs. Go ahead...you know you can't resist.

There was a PhotoPass photographer on hand and ready to go as well as a cast member who would take pictures with your own camera. The meet and greet was very well organized, and the PhotoPass photographer and cast member did a great job of making sure everyone knew which camera was going to be shooting and when. It also seemed to me that the PhotoPass photographer checked his photo before moving on to the next family; which I thought was very nice considering how important this photo was to many family members.

The line moved more quickly than your average line since there were no autographs. This photo only opportunity still had plenty of popularity and was a truly magical experience.

The darkness in Frontierland surprisingly wasn't a problem for this character location as additional lighting was used to illuminate the photo area. This was a big help for people with digital cameras that don't have night settings or a strong enough flash. The area was set far enough back that the extra lighting didn't interfere with the overall atmosphere in Frontierland.

If you are planning on making character meet n' greets one of your party priorities be sure to check out my post on where the characters are and plan accordingly!
