FAQ's About RFID

If you are lost about all the acronyms in the title, don't worry. It's not as hard as it sounds. This information is directly from the Walt Disney World website and will answer frequently asked questions (FAQ's) about RFID (Radio Frequency Technology).

Q. What information should I know about my privacy and the Disney Park Experience at Walt Disney World Resort?
A.

The Disney Park Experience is designed to enhance your visit to the Walt Disney World Resort—and other participating operations within the Walt Disney Parks and Resorts business segment—and provide a more immersive, personalized and seamless experience.
To provide you with the Park Experience, we will collect information from you online and when you visit the Walt Disney World Resort. Because many features of the Park Experience are new, you might have questions about the information we collect and how we use it to deliver the Park Experience.
We value our Guests and are dedicated to treating the information we obtain from you with care and respect. As we continue to enhance the Park Experience and develop new ways of interacting with you, we will update this information.
Information We Collect from You Online for the Park Experience
The information we collect from you when you use the My Disney Experience website or mobile app is handled in accordance with our online privacy policy.
Information We Collect From You When You Visit the Park
We also collect certain information from you while you are at Disney parks and Resort hotels through means other than the My Disney Experience website or mobile app. The following information addresses aspects of the Park Experience that may be of interest to you.
What are the RF Devices used for the Park Experience?
When you purchase certain Park Experience benefits, you may receive a radio frequency technology-enabled card or other device (“RF Device”) that is unique to you and allows us to authenticate you and the benefits associated with you.
Similar to the Key to the World Card, your RF Device can be used to enter the parks, access your room if you are staying at a Disney Resort hotel and make purchases at select Walt Disney Parks and Resorts locations. Your RF Device also can be used to redeem Disney FastPass+ selections.
What information do we collect through your use of the RF Devices?
When you touch your RF Device to touch points located throughout the Disney parks and Resort hotels, your location is determined based on your interaction with the RF Device reader. In addition, if your RF Device comes within proximity of one of the readers located throughout our Disney parks and Resort hotels that automatically recognize RF Devices, we are able to determine that your are near that reader. The readers that automatically recognize RF Devices may not be visible to you.
The RF Devices themselves do not store your information. Rather, they contain a code that allows us to associate your RF Device with the benefits you have purchased and to collect information regarding your interactions with the various RF Device readers at Walt Disney Parks and Resorts locations. Your interactions provide us with information about the products and services you experience in the parks; your wait time for rides, restaurants and other attractions; and similar types of information.
How is information collected through your use of RF Devices used?
The information we collect through your use of the RF Device allows us to provide you with personalized information and tailored experiences based on the activities you requested or are engaging in and your location in Walt Disney Parks and Resorts locations.
If you signed up to receive “Offers and Tips” through the My Vacations Notifications feature on the My Disney Experience website or mobile app, we may use information collected through your use of the RF Device to fulfill your request.
We may also use the information we collect through your use of the RF Device to send you information about products and services that we think may be of interest to you.
In addition, information we collect through your use of the RF Device will allow us to improve our overall products and services, such as managing wait times and improving traffic flow.
How is information collected through your use of the RF Devices shared?
We may share information about your experiences at Walt Disney Parks and Resorts locations with other members of the Walt Disney Family of Companies.
However, information about your specific Park Experience collected automatically through your use of the RF Device as described above will not be shared with other members of the Walt Disney Family of Companies to use for marketing purposes unless you elect that we do so.
We will only share information about you that is automatically collected through your use of the RF Device with third-parties for their marketing uses if you elect that we do so.
What choices are available regarding information collected through your use of RF Devices?
If you signed up to receive “Offers and Tips" through the My Vacation Notifications feature on the My Disney Experience website or mobile app, you can access your online account at any time to change your preferences, or just follow the instructions provided in the communications you receive.
If we use information collected through your use of the RF Devices to send you information regarding products and services that we think may be of interest to you via email, we will provide a mechanism in those communications for you to opt out of receiving those communications.
What is the Ticket Tag service used for park entry?
We offer the convenience of Ticket Tag at the entrance of many of our parks. Ticket Tag helps to facilitate ease of re-entry into our parks and helps prevent fraud.
What information is collected through the Ticket Tag service?
In order to use Ticket Tag, you simply place your finger on a reader. The system, which utilizes the technology of biometrics, takes an image of your finger, converts the image into a unique numerical value and immediately discards the image. The numerical value is recalled when you use Ticket Tag with the same ticket to reenter or visit another park. Ticket Tag does not store fingerprints.
Are all Guests required to use Ticket Tag?
If you don’t want to use Ticket Tag, you can simply carry and show a photo ID that matches the name identified with your ticket.
How do we keep the information that we collect secure?
The security, integrity and confidentiality of your information are extremely important to us. We have implemented technical, administrative and physical security measures that are designed to protect Guest information from unauthorized access, disclosure, use and modification. From time to time, we review our security procedures to consider appropriate new technology and methods. Please be aware that, despite our best efforts, no security measures are perfect or impenetrable.
