Disney Buys Star Wars

This news is "so yesterday", I know; but as I sit here eating Halloween candy while my step-son sleeps,  I'm pondering the meaning of life and the sale of Star Wars to Disney.

Yes, the meaning of life and Star Wars go hand-in-hand when you live in a house of Star Wars addicts. So what's the basis of the story here, let's cut to the chase:

  • Disney is buying Lucasfilm as well as his production companies Industrial Light & Magic and Skywalker Sound and the rights to the "Indiana Jones" franchise.
  • Lucas's precious entities sold for $4.05 billion. Does that matter to us? No, because we can't even fathom that kind of money.
  • More Star Wars films are in the works, including the 7th film set to release in 2015 and episodes 8 and 9 to follow.
The basis is, a company that has a ton of money bought a huge set of companies from another guy that has a ton of money and everyone is getting a lot of money and the mouse is getting Star Wars and Indiana Jones and all those other cool companies that do the other stuff that only technological saavy people understand. That's fine and dandy, congrats.

Now, here is what I want to happen:
  • Build on the Star Wars Weekends at Hollywood studios-This event is SO much fun! It's awesome to see the Star Wars characters out and about and it's such a rush running around the park to meet and greet everyone and see the various presentations about the films. Even as a so-so Star Wars fan our first Star Wars Weekends trip was my favorite Disney trip we'd ever taken. The Hypserspace Hooplah show has greatly improved and the entire experience is amazing. Let's keep that going, shall we?
  • Theme some cool merchandise and have it available all the time-While I must admit that Disney has been doing a much better job of this lately, let's keep it going. It used to be you could only find Star Wars merchandise at Tattooine Traders (the gift shop attached to the Star Tours ride) and at Star Wars Weekends. Now the theme parks are carrying a much more diverse set of merchandise year round. I love the selection of merchandise in the shop inside of Tomorrowland in Disneyland Park.
  • Have a Star Wars cruise-The Pixar themed cruise was a lot of fun and even though I personally would have upped the theming more, a Star Wars cruise would be AMAZING and judging by the turnout at Star Wars weekends it would be a huge hit. Let the kids battle Darth Vader at the Oceaneer's Club and Lab and have a "Hyperspace Hooplah" type of event instead of Pirate Night; it would be AWESOME.
  • Make all Stormtroopers wear Mickey ears at the parks-Come on, this is hysterical and adorable at the same time, you know it is!!!
  • Get rid of Innoventions and theme it Star Wars-If that boring old eyesore isn't going to be used for the Stark Expo (Marvel, IronMan/Avengers) then make it Star Wars. But for goodness sakes does anyone really care about a video game or the "technological house" anymore? The only time I pay any attention to Innoventions is when I want to get out of the sun for a minute or if I'm rushing past it to get to Test Track. Dear Epcot, 1980 called and they want their lame "attraction" back. (That's my favorite joke by the way, it's always funny no matter what you plug into those spaces).
  • Disregard all the fan-demonium about the movies coming up-The ongoing arguments about the choices George Lucas made regarding the films are never going to end. Every fan-a-maniac has an opinion that's not going to change so let's all agree to disagree and move forward with our lives and the future of the Star Wars legacy, which will hopefully be like the old school films and not the crappy new one's. Sorry, couldn't help myself.
And that my friends are my preliminary hair-brained schemes for Star Wars and Disney. Bob Iger, you can contact me directly to send me a check for these brilliant ideas which are copyrighted according to me and for sale to you for a Mickey rice krispie treat.
